[phpzonsidebar title=”Top Diesel Heaters” keywords=”diesel heater” num=”5″ country=”US” searchindex=”Tools” trackingid=”heatergeek-20″ sort=”none” id=”3″]A diesel tent heater is a heater that produces clean heat without the need of electricity. Although they are commonly used by the military, this type of heater is also suitable for an alternate structure, such as a workshop, cottage or garage. If you’re looking for this type of heater, they are available in several sizes and heat output.

These heaters require little maintenance and are easy to operate. And lighting the portable furnace is simple, as well. They are equally suited for temporary or permanent use, in even the coldest of climates. All units are typically equipped with several safety features, which help to eliminate the possibility of accidental injury. They include a fuel shutoff valve, a non-flooding vapor burner, a heat shield and a fuel regulator, which features over-heat protection.

Like the majority of other products on the market, the cost of a diesel tent heater is dependent on the size of the unit. As of November, 2011, published prices range from $500 to $800. Of course, costs vary from dealer to dealer. Exhaust kits and fuel line kits are generally a separate purchase.

Heaters with an output of 4,000 to 12,000 BTUs are recommended for a one or two man tents.  They weigh roughly 16 pounds without a stack. These heaters are often self-contained with a built-in fuel tank, rain cap, and chimney. As a rule, they cannot be converted to solid fuel. Units of this size provide adequate heat for about eight hours using a half a gallon of diesel fuel.  They are very economical to use.

The next size heater is usually in the 23,000 to 50,000 BTU range. It is designed for a five or six man tent. The majority of these models are also self-contained and include the necessary fuel lines, smoke stack, rain cap, metering valve, and wire grate. Heaters in this particular category can generally be converted to solid fuel and have a lid that is designed with a built-in burner, suitable for cooking.

The largest heaters are the ones that are typically used in military barracks.  They are in the 65,000 BTU range and are constructed of cold rolled stainless steel. The units feature built-in water coils. These commercial grade diesel tent heaters have an adjustable heat valve and can easily be connected to either a Jerry can or other fuel supply source.

In conclusion, this type of heater is suitable for almost any situation. It is much less inexpensive to run than other heat sources. More importantly, because it burns clean, it poses no harm to the environment.
